BOTOX Cosmetic vs. Dermal Fillers Charleston
Do I need BOTOX ® Cosmetic or fillers? That is the most common question asked by patients interested in non-surgical facial rejuvenation. The answer, of course depends on the problems Dr. William Terranova and his experienced Charleston BOTOX skin care staff will try to address.
BOTOX ® Cosmetic is a toxin which paralyzes muscles into which it is injected. In the very small amounts that it is typically used, it is perfectly safe. Dermal fillers are injected to provide volume.
Eliminating Wrinkles and Creases
Wrinkles and creases are largely of two types. There are those that are typically caused by years and years of muscle activity (the crows’ feet and the wrinkles around the mouth are typical examples), and there are wrinkles formed by the sagging of tissues caused by aging and gravity (the nasolabial folds and jowls are typical examples).
BOTOX ® Cosmetic is used to soften or eliminate wrinkles caused by muscle activity. It can also be used to elevate the lateral eyebrow by lessening the effect of the muscles that tend to pull the eyebrow down for the eye. Creases and folds caused by the descent of facial tissues are treated by filling these areas with volume.
Some patients require either BOTOX ® Cosmetic or dermal fillers. However, most of our patients require a combination of both skin care treatments.
Our non-surgical facial rejuvenation is performed by Susan Watson-Neimy, RN. Susan has over 6 years of experience in the use of these techniques. Her results are excellent and patients are extremely pleased.
