Thigh Lift Charleston

Before & After Photos

Most patients who are unhappy with their inner or outer thighs can be helped with liposuction alone. However, with advancing age and/or significant weight loss, sagging, excess skin must be removed in order for a satisfactory contour to be achieved. Thigh lift is primarily intended to address excess sagging skin, not excess fat. However, if needed, the procedure can also incorporate liposuction techniques to remove localized fat deposits.

Am I a Thigh Lift Candidate?

A board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Terranova is the best person to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for thigh lift. He will take into consideration factors such as your physical anatomy, health history and desired surgical outcome before deeming you a qualified candidate.

In general, thigh lift candidates:

  • Are in good physical and psychological health
  • Do not smoke, or plan to quit smoking at least two weeks prior to surgery
  • Have a positive self-image but are embarrassed by the appearance of their thighs
  • Do not view thigh lift surgery as a weight loss method

The Thigh Lift Procedure

Prior to surgery, anesthesia medications will be administered to prevent you from feeling anything during the procedure.

The thigh lift incision pattern varies based on several factors, including the treated area and degree of correction. Typically, Dr. Terranova makes an incision at the level of the hip bone, so any scarring will be concealed by clothing. Through the incision, he will eliminate inner thigh skin redundancy. If there is a mild to moderate degree of skin redundancy, the incision will be limited to the inguinal crease. If there is an excessive degree of skin redundancy, the incision may partially extend down the inner thigh. Liposuction is often incorporated into thigh lift surgery for optimal results.

After removing excess skin and fat, Dr. Terranova will re-drape the skin more tightly over the curve of the thigh, and close the incisions with sutures. He will dress the incision site with surgical bandages, and he may place a compression garment for added support.

Recovering from Thigh Lift

It’s common for the treated area to be swollen, bruised and/or tender initially following thigh lift surgery. If Dr. Terranova has placed a compression garment around the thighs, you should keep that in place until he advises you to remove it. You will also need to carefully follow his post-operative instructions for cleaning the incision site. If you feel any pain during your initial thigh lift recovery, Dr. Terranova can prescribe oral pain medication.

Everyone’s body heals differently, and you should take time to relax and recover at your own pace. It’s important to avoid any strenuous movements or exercise, including bending, lifting and straining, for the first part of your recovery. You should plan to take a week or two off from work and rest at home. After Dr. Terranova clears you to return to work and exercise, you can gently ease into your normal routine. It can take up to several months for swelling to completely subside, but you will start to see your results almost immediately after surgery.

Typical Thigh Lift Results

Thigh lift surgery produces very long-lasting results. After the swelling has disappeared, you will notice a flatter, firmer thigh contour. Your pants may fit more comfortably, and you will probably feel more comfortable wearing tight workout clothing and even bathing suits!

Your scars will fade over time, but they may never completely disappear. If you’d like, we can recommend certain topical products that you can apply to minimize scarring.

The natural effects of aging may affect the firmness of your thighs, but for the most part, you should maintain your results.

Other Body Sculpting Procedures

Would you like tighter, more toned arms or a flatter midsection, in addition to your newly improved thighs? Dr. Terranova offers other body contouring procedures including abdominoplasty and breast reduction surgery to sculpt your entire figure.
